Born in Glasgow in 1949, Robert Kelsey graduated in Fine Arts from the Glasgow School of Art in 1970. A career in Art Education followed until 1995 when he decided to paint full time. Since then he has developed a creative reputation from his faithful depictions of the coastal landscapes of Western Scotland and its adjacent islands, producing some spectacular work of the fantastic scenery. Well travelled, Kelsey also often paints such disparate locations as the Mediterranean, Suffolk and Cornwall. Kelsey’s artistic skill is centred around his dedication to the form of light and colour, to which he brings an unparalleled accuracy. Kelsey`s paintings reflect his love of light, colour and the vast beaches and skies of the islands off the West Coast of Scotland, often walking in the footsteps of the famous Scottish Colourists painters such as Samuel Peploe.
He has been in demand both North and South of the border for solo and group exhibitions and has exhibited widely. Collectors of his work include His Grace the Duke of Bedford, The Fleming Collection, Credit Lyonnais, Arisaig parners (Asia) Ltd, Turnberry Hotel, Enterprise Oil, Taylor Woodrow and Paisley Art Gallery and Museum.
