Tom Rickman has developed a massive following for his works that often depict coastal scenes from the deep South West of England. In this view from Selworthy above the coastal village of Porlock, the rain falls over Porlock (a village in Somerset near the Devon border that featured in The English Patient) and as a contrast to the rather lovely foreground as the land slopes away, the distant coastline bristles with threat and foreboding. I should add this is a very sizeable artwork that I bought in a Mayfair gallery nearly 20 years ago.
