Description

Crinan is a small village in the the Argyll & Bute region of the Western Highlands of Scotland, on the shores of Loch Crinan, and connects to the Crinan Sea Lock on the Sound of Jura. This is a typical Robert Kelsey work, a faithful depiction of Western Scotland’s coastal landscapes, for which he is so well known. A delightful and breezy painting, it was acquired in a Mayfair art gallery in the 1990s and reminds me of my own love affair with the Western Isles and the Argyll & Bute region and several delightful trips to Turnberry, Oban, Knipoch on the shores of Loch Feochan, Tobermory and the Isle of Mull… There is a freshness to the air and a brightness to the sunlight that I have experienced in few other places, little wonder the colours that emerge from the canvas are so sure and clear.
